The fifth & the final test between India & England which was scheduled to begin on September 10 has been cancelled.
“Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team. We send our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news, which we know will cause immense disappointment and inconvenience to many” said ECB in its Official statement.
According to sources, some of the Indian players were reluctant to take the field which has resulted in the cancellation of the IND vs ENG 5th Test 2021. Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara and others traveling with families refused to take field on the morning of the fifth test & thus the ECB has confirmed that the ‘test match stands cancelled’
There was a lot of uncertainty around the commencement of India’s final test against England since India’s physio-therapist Yogesh Parmar has tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. Following this development, India’s practice session on the eve of the Test was also called off with the players undergoing a fresh round of tests.
Even though the Indian players have tested negative for COVID-19 they denied to play the final test due to health concerns as well as the readiness for the IPL 2021, which is going to start in less than 10 days.

ECB has stated that Indian players unwillingness to take the field on Friday has resulted in the cancellation of the fifth test match thus the BCCI could lose a whopping £30million (304 Crore) in broadcasting revenue and gate receipts from the full-houses expected at Old Trafford’s 21,500 capacity ground.

According to sources, the ECB & BCCI had a tiff over the cancellation of the final test. ECB is upset with the BCCI as they are prioritizing IPL 2021 over bilateral commitment & today the Indian players refused to take the field. ECB has also warned the BCCI that they would be liable for all the losses.
Secondly ECB is upset with the BCCI & Indian team’s decision to attend a book launch in London just few days before the Oval test. According to ECB, the Covid-19 positive results in the Indian camp are largely due to this particular incident.
On the Other hand, BCCI is upset over ECB as they have asked the England cricket board to forfeit the match on Thursday in case they are not ready to play. That would have left the series tied at 2-2 without players even setting foot on the Old Trafford outfield.
Currently the Indian players have been moved to a separate floor in the Manchester’s Radisson Hotel and into a bio-bubble. They will stay in the bubble until the tests are over and then reach will travel to the UAE for IPL 2021 via a Chartered Flight. The BCCI sources told that the players are being monitored closely and will be tested on a daily basis till they board the chartered for IPL 2021 in UAE.
