IND vs ENG: India batsman Shubman Gill has returned back home after being ruled out of the five-match test series against England. Recently Gill has posted an Instagram story of him arriving back in India & his family welcoming him with a lovely cake.
Shubman suffered a shin injury & thus he was ruled out of the game for eight weeks ahead of the five-match test series against England. According to the sources, Shubman suffered an injury after the conclusion of the WTC final. “He has a shin injury which he has sustained after the WTC final against New Zealand & will require eight weeks to recover fully”, the source explained. This means that the Indian team management will have to go ahead with either Mayank Agarwal or KL Rahul as the opening partner of Rohit Sharma.
However, Gill didn’t have a great stint in the WTC final against New Zealand as he registered scores of 28 & 8 runs. Shubman Gill got off to a good start in the first innings but failed to convert it into big scores & gave a below-par performance in the second innings of the WTC final. New Zealand won the match by eight wickets to clinch the historical inaugural season of WTC. After displaying heroics with the bat on debut in the Australia series, Gill has faced a lean patch with the bat & couldn’t score decent scores even in the four-match test series against England held earlier this year in India.
Currently, India is playing a three-day warm-up match with County Select XI as they are preparing for five match test series against England starting from August 4. Earlier India’s wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant & support staff Dayanand Garani had tested positive for COVID-19 & were kept in isolation. Even Abhimanyu Easwaran, Wriddhiman Saha, and bowling coach Bharat Arun were kept in quarantine as they were identified as closed contacts of Garani. However earlier on Monday, a source in the know of the developments said that Rishabh Pant’s quarantine ended on 18th July & after undergoing post-COVID-19 diagnosis Pant can rejoin the team by 22nd or 23rd of July. The quarantine period for Abhimanyu Easwaran, Wriddhiman Saha, and bowling coach Bharat Arun will end on 24th July. However, the trio has tested negative in an array of tests conducted over the span of time.
Meanwhile, on Day 2 of the ongoing IND vs County Select XI warm-up match, Team India reduced County Select XI to 220/9 at stumps. County Select XI is still trailing the Indian team by huge 91 runs. Hameed’s blistering 112 runs knock revived County Select’s innings but soon Indian bowlers bounced back & ran through County’s batting order to reduce them to 220/9 at stumps. For India Umesh starred with the ball by scalping 3 wickets for 22 runs. On day 3, India will start their second innings with the aim of increasing the lead & dominating County Select in the ongoing warm-up match.
