IND vs County Select XI: Fast bowler Avesh Khan on Tuesday sustained a blow to his left thumb in the practice match. Avesh Khan has been taken for scans & BCCI’s medical team is monitoring him.
“UPDATE- Fast bowler Avesh Khan sustained a blow to his left thumb on Day 1 of the warm-up match. He has gone to get a scan. The BCCI medical team is monitoring him”, the BCCI said in a statement. Indian bowlers Washington Sundar & Avesh Khan have been selected in the Playing XI for the County Select XI for the three-day practice match in Durham. Indian team won the toss & opted to bat against County Select XI. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli & Ajinkya Rahane have been rested for the clash on doctor’s advice & thus Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian team.
Ravichandran Ashwin & Ishant Sharma has also been rested for the match & in their place, Shardul Thakur & Umesh Yadav have been included in the playing XI. India has steadied their innings after losing early wickets in the ongoing match. The Indian team has scored more than 250 runs on Day one of the warm-up match.
In the second session on Day One, KL Rahul & Jadeja helped India to recover their innings as the duo took visitors’ innings to 188/4 at the end of tea. At the start of the second session, an impatient shot by Hanuma Vihari resulted in his dismissal as Vihari failed to score big in the warm-up game. Earlier in the first session, India scored 80 runs by losing three wickets at lunch. Lyndon James struck twice & a stumping dismissal for Cheteshwar Pujara put India on the back foot.
Rohit Sharma could score just 9 runs while Mayank Agarwal was sent back after scoring 28 runs in the first innings. The fall of Cheteshwar Pujara’s wicket before lunch put India on the backfoot before Rahul & Jadeja came on the crease to revive India’s innings.
