IND vs County Select XI: The Indian test team is playing a warm-up match against County Select XI, but you all might be wondering about the absence of Virat Kohli & vice-Captain Ajinkya Rahane in the practice match. To end your curiosity, Cricketflicker has brought insider news for its readers. The Indian Captain Virat Kohli has missed the warm-up match because he has been advised to take a rest after he felt stiffness in his back late on Monday evening, the BCCI informed on Tuesday.
Also, India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has mild swelling around his left upper hamstring which has been addressed by an injection. And so he is also not available for the three-day warm-up match.
“Captain Virat Kohli felt some stiffness in his back on late Monday evening & he has been advised to take rest from the three-day first-class warm-up match by the BCCI medical team”, the BCCI said in a statement.
“The BCCI medical team is monitoring Rahane & he is expected to fully recover well in time for the first test against England starting from 4th August at Nottingham”, it added. Indian bowlers Washington Sundar & Avesh Khan were selected in the Playing XI for the County Select XI for the three days warm-up match in Durham.
BCCI said that ECB made a request to the Indian team management to let two players from the Indian team play for the County Select XI after some players were deemed unavailable either due to injury or close contacts of a COVID-19 positive person. Meanwhile, in the ongoing game, the Indian players are wearing black armbands to mourn the demise of former India Cricketer Yashpal Sharma who passed away on July 13 after suffering from a cardiac arrest. Head Coach Ravi Shastri was his teammate in the 1983 World Cup-winning squad.
Last week, Rishabh Pant & Dayanand Garani has tested positive for COVID-19, thus Rishabh pant is not included in the Playing XI. Wriddhiman Saha, Abhimanyu Easwaran & Bharat Arun has also been kept in isolation as they were identified as close contacts of Dayanand Garani. In the absence of Saha & Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul has been included in the squad for the role of wicket-keeping.
As per the reports, Rishabh Pant’s quarantine period ended on Sunday & after post COVID diagnosis, Pant will be free to join the Indian team in Durham for the second practice match. Probably Rishabh Pant will be joining the team India by 22nd or 23rd July in Durham.
According to the reports, the quarantine period for Abhimanyu Easwaran, Wriddhiman Saha, and bowling coach Bharat Arun will end on 24th July. However, the trio has tested negative in an array of tests conducted over the span of time. The ongoing three-match warm-up match is played behind closed doors but it will be streamed online on Durham’s Youtube Channel
