The BCCI has announced that Suryakumar Yadav & Prithvi Shaw will join the Indian team in the UK as replacements of injured players to play against England. However after the two batsmen were recognized as close contacts of Krunal Pandya it seems like Suryakumar & Shaw may not get the opportunity to travel to England.
Both the batsmen are currently in isolation & will not be able to board a flight to UK anytime soon. Also the COVID-19 protocols of England may not allow the duo to enter the country. A top BCCI Official had a talk with media on Thursday & indicated the possibility of naming replacements for Suryakumar & Prithvi Shaw.
“We can’t say anything with certainty at this stage. We have to observe them for next couple of days to decide – whether to announce new replacements or not,” the BCCI official stated.
Suryakumar Yadav & Prithvi Shaw got a chance to join the test team in England on the basis of their swashbuckling performances in the ongoing white ball series against Sri Lanka. They duo were named as the replacements of injured players- Avesh Khan, Washington Sundar & Shubman Gill.
The COVID-19 protocols of the UK states that an individual who came in a close contact with a COVID-19 positive person will have to self-isolate themselves for ten days before entering UK. So according to this rule, Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav will have to stay in Colombo until August 6 and depart on August 7.
Since India & Sri Lanka are on UK’s red list, Prithvi & Suryakumar have t quarantine for ten days. They will also have to follow 3 days isolation & return negative in three COVID-19 tests to join the Indian team in bio-bubble in England. After fulfilling all the criteria’s they can join Virat Kohli led Indian team on August 22 just three days before the third test match. It is highly not possible that Prithv Shaw or Suryakumar will play a game just after three days of isolation. Hence the duo will be available to feature in only two Test matches if they travel to England.
