IND vs NZ 1st Test, Day 3: After enduring a forgettable outing on Day 2, India bounced back on Saturday and ended the game with smiles all around. New Zealand didn’t lose a single wicket on day 2 as their openers had stitched a hundred run-partnership. However, the bowlers came back strongly and picked all 10 wickets on 296 runs on Day 3 in Kanpur. Ravi Ashwin broke the opening partnership by sending Will Young back to the hut in the 67th over.
It was followed by Axar Patel’s sensational bowling performance as he took his team back into the game. After Umesh Yadav sent Williamson back to the hut, Axar Patel accounted for the wickets of Tom Latham, Ross Taylor, and Henry Nicholls, and Tom Blundell to leave New Zealand in trouble at 258 for 7. Playing only his fourth match, Axar Patel picked his fifth five-wicket haul in Test Cricket.
He was once again sensational with the ball. Ravi Ashwin picked the last two wickets to bundle New Zealand out for 296 runs. Ashwin finished with figures of 3 for 82 runs in 42.3 overs, while Umesh and Ravindra Jadeja picked a wicket each.
India, as a result, took a 49-run lead before starting the second innings. India, however, didn’t start the innings too well. Kyle Jamieson, once again, accounted for the wicket of Shubman Gill (1 off 3) in only the second over of the innings to leave India in trouble early in the innings. Mayank Agarwal (4 off 13) and Cheteshwar Pujara (9 off 14) are currently unbeaten at Stump’s on Day 3.
India would look to not lose a partnership in the first session of Day 4. If they manage to do that then they will have the upper hand in the game.
