IND vs SA 2021, 1st Test, Day 4: India needs six wickets to win the Centurion test against South Africa as the match enters the final day at SuperSport Park, Centurion. India’s innings were wrapped up in the second session on Wednesday while 40.5 overs were bowled during the second session with the hosts losing four wickets in the tricky phase.
At stumps, South Africa was reduced to 94/4 with 211 runs required to win the match with six wickets still in their hands. For the Proteas squad, Dean Elgar is unbeaten at the crease as the test goes into the final day.
Resuming the final session at 22/1 South African batters showed resistance against the Indian pacers. But Mohammed Siraj soon gets the breakthrough for India by removing Keegan Petersen to the pavilion for 17 runs off 36 balls. Jasprit Bumrah then took over India’s bowling attack as he soon cleaned Rassie Van Der Dussen and then Keshav Maharaj in the last over of the day.
India still needs more six wickets to win the match & are trying their best to seal their first win at the Centurion. Virat & Co will aim to scalp quick wickets while South Africa will have to put their every strength to deny India a win.
The wicket is pacers friendly both in terms of movement and bounce, and South Africa will need a record chase in SuperSport if they aim to win the game. Their previous best score at SuperSport stadium was 251 for eight against England in 2000.
Earlier resuming day four of the firts test on 16/1 India could muster 63 runs to their scoreboard in teh first session at the loss of two wickets. However, the hosts bounced back to bowl India for 174 runs. Though India survived Proteas lethal pace attack in the morning session, the hosts made sure to use the pitch in the best way during the second session & were successful in scalping seven wickets in quick succession. India succumbed in front of Proteas lethal bowling attack & could muster just 95 runs in the second session.
Kagiso Rabada took 4-42 while debutant left-arm seamer Marco Jansen (4-55) and Lungi Ngidi (2-31) were the other wicket-takers for South Africa. For the tourists, Rishabh Pant (34) was top-scorer in their second innings.
