IND vs SA 2022: South African Team receives a major blow ahead of the fourth T20I of the series as their key batter Aiden Markram has been ruled out of the remainder of the T20I series against India. Earlier, Markram was ruled out of the first T20I after testing positive for COVID-19 & didn’t return for the next two T20Is as well.
As per the CSA statement, he was under isolation for seven days after testing positive for COVID-19 & will not be able to complete his rehabilitation on time to feature in the last two T20Is.
“Proteas batsman, Aiden Markram, has been ruled out of the remainder of the Proteas’ tour of India. He spent seven days in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 last week and will not be able to complete his return to play program in time to take part in the remainder of the T20 series,” a Cricket South Africa statement was quoted as saying.
“The player is healthy and well and has been cleared to return home to look after his mental and emotional wellbeing after isolation in a local facility, as required when an individual tests positive on tour,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the CSA also informed that the team management is monitoring the progress of wicket-keeper batter Quinton De Kock & a decision on his availability for the rest of the two matches will be made by CSA’s medical team.
“Wicket-keeper batsman, Quinton de Kock, has made a marked improvement in his recovery from a wrist injury. The Proteas’ medical staff will continue to assess his progress and make a decision on his availability for match four in due course,” it read.
For the unversed, Quinton de Kock suffered a wrist injury during the first T20I & thus was ruled out of the second & third T20Is. Heinrich Klasein replaced him in the second & the third T20Is.
