IND vs SA, 2nd ODI: Proteas beats India by seven wickets to clinch the series by 2-0

IND vs SA 2nd ODI: De Kock, Malan shines as Proteas beats India by seven wickets to clinch the Series

IND vs SA 2nd ODI: Indian Cricket team is having a tough time as after losing T20 World Cup 2021, they even lost the much-anticipated test & ODI series against South Africa. When India headed to South Africa there were lots of talks & assumptions of India winning the historic test series & ODI series in Rainbow Nation. However now India will return back with empty hands as they have faced humiliating defeats in both the formats at the hands of South Africa.

After losing the test series with a 2-1 score & the first ODI, India was confident of bouncing back & saving the series by winning the second ODI. However, all their hopes were dissolved when they suffered a massive seven wickets win in the second ODI at the Boland Park in Paarl. After defending a 296-run total in the first ODI, South Africa made light work of a 288-run target, chasing it down with 7 wickets and 11 balls to spare.

Riding on the back of a match-winning knock from openers Janneman Malan (91) & Quinton de Kock (78) the hosts registered a spectacular win against India. Handy Contributions were made by captain Temba Bavuma (35), Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram in a dominant batting display that helped the Proteas to chase a competitive target of 281 runs with ease.

The only positive in India’s innings was a flair 85 runs knock by Rishabh Pant while all the other batsmen failed to leave a mark with the bat during the crucial second test. Meanwhile, South Africa proved their mettle against India by outclassing the World Cricket Giants across all formats.

South African openers Quinton de Kock (91) & Malan (91) have missed on their centuries but they made sure to make India’s bowling attack look ineffective in front of their mighty bats. After Rishabh Pant missed a stumping opportunity against de Kock in R Ashwin’s over in the first powerplay, South Africa hardly looked in trouble as they cruised to the target on a pitch that the visitors thought would slow down during the second innings.

For India, Jasprit Bumrah did his best by conceding just 37 runs in his 10 overs spell & denying Malan his century. But lack of support from other bowlers made the job of restricting the Proteas squad difficult for Bumrah. Spinners R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal struggled to strike in the middle-overs once again as KL Rahul’s men failed to put any kind of pressure on the South Africa batters. Hosts who had earlier defended their target of 296 runs with ease in the first ODI this time rocked the field with bat & chased the massive target of 288 runs with seven wickets & 11 balls to spare.

The year 2022 started on a low note for India as they lost their first away series of the year. KL Rahul’s leadership skills will come under scrutiny as during his captaincy India lost the 2nd Test and the first 2 ODIs. Questions will also be raised on Rahul Dravid’s coaching stint as it was India’s first overseas tour under his new role which the ‘men in Blue’ lost miserably.

IND vs SA 2nd ODI, Brief scores:
