IND vs SL 2nd ODI: Deepak Chahar’s extraordinary unbeaten 69 runs knock guided India to a stunning win over Sri Lanka in the second ODI at the R Premadasa Stadium on Tuesday. Chahar smashed a gutsy fifty & then continued his firing with the bat by stitching an 84 runs stand with Bhuvneshwar Kumar 19* to take India home after India was reduced to 193/7 in the second ODI. India was almost out in their run chase but thanks to Deepak Chahar who made sure that Indian players walk out of the stadium by clinching a memorable win in the second ODI.
The final over was not less than a roller coaster ride for both the teams & India fans. Visitors required 16 runs to win in the last three overs & the duo ensured that India doesn’t lose any wickets thereby taking India home with five balls to spare. With this remarkable victory, India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Chasing a mammoth of 276 runs, India got off to a good start but soon they were restricted as opener Prithvi Shaw & Ishan Kishan departed in quick successions to reduce India to 39/2. Captain Shikhar Dhawan & Manish Pandey stitched a 26 runs brief stand but Wanindu Hasaranga caught the opening batsman inf rot of the stumps right in the 12th over. India’s chase was surviving on short partnerships as Suryakumar Yadav gave India a ray of home. However soon Suryakumar departed after stitching his half-century as India got reduced to 160/6.
After losing Hardik & krunal Pandya in quick successions, India was in a state of bother before Deepak Chahar revived India’s innings. Chahar smashed a blistering half-century & took India close to their target by stitching a steady partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Chahar & Bhuvneshwar then took India to home in the final overs as visitors seal the series by a score of 2-0 with the third ODI still left to be played.
Earlier choosing to bat first, Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka (65) & Chamika Karunaratne (44*) played gleaming knocks as Sri Lanka registered a mammoth total of 275/9 in 50 overs. Sri Lanka was struggling at 194/6 before Asalanka’s stupendous fifty & Karunaratne’s late cameo took Sri Lanka over 250 runs mark. For the Indian team, Deepak Chahar supported Chahal & Bhuvneshwar by scalping two wickets. Sri Lanka has given a good start to their innings as they brought up 59 runs in the first 10 overs. Hosts openers Minod Bhanuka 36 runs & Avishka Fernando 50 runs got hosts off to a solid start. However, twin strikes from Yuzvendra Chahal in the 14th over put Sri Lanka on the backfoot. Chahal took the prized wickets of Bhanuka & Bhanuka Rajapakasa in successive deliveries to put India in dominating state.
Deepak Chahar & Chahal ran through hosts batting to order to reduce them to 134/4. Every time hosts tried to steady their innings a wicket fell as Chahar & Chahal kept the bowling tight. Sri Lanka was on 194/6 when Charith Asalanka revived Sri Lankan innings. Asalanka’s crucial fifty kept Sri Lanka in a good position & hosts through up 244 runs before Asalanka getting bowled. In the last two overs, Sri Lanka scored 23 runs to reach a competitive total of 275 runs despite losing successive wickets in the final six balls.
