IND vs SL 2nd ODI: Sri Lanka will face India in the second ODI of the ongoing ODI series on Tuesday at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. On Sunday India registered a comfy win in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The young Indian squad looked in its best form as they chase a target of 263 runs with 13 overs to spare.
In the first ODI, Shikhar Dhawan was the highest run-scorer in the match by staying unbeaten on 95 balls 86 runs. He kept the chase under control with other young batsmen playing with positive intent. Prithvi Shaw displayed an early onslaught with the bat by scoring 43 runs off 24 balls, laying the foundation of India’s successful run chase.
Debutant Ishan Kishan carried the momentum by attacking Sri Lankan spinners to register a quick half-century on their ODI debut. Manish Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav batted at Nos 4 & 5 as India chased the target right in the 37th over.
Earlier, Sri Lanka scored 262-9 in 50 overs only because of power hitting in the death overs that took them to a decent total. Sri Lankan innings got accelerated only when Chamika Karunaratne strode out to bat at No .8. All their top-order batters scored double-digit scores, but none of them could score a half-century. None of the top-order Sri Lankan batsmen could score well as a result the pressure goes on the ones who followed.
Shikhar Dhawan was at his best on his captaincy debut. He handled the bowlers well in the entire fixture. The spin trio of Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Krunal Pandya was effective on the day. The Sri Lankan squad needs to figure out a way to counter India’s aggressive approach with the bat. Sri Lanka’s batting order lack fire in their batting stint. The hosts need to find out the way to control Ishan Kishan & Prithvi Shaw from scoring runs otherwise a repeat of the first ODI could be witnessed in the second ODI.
The first ODI was not less than an enthralling match with some power-pack action on display. A more close encounter could be on the cards on Tuesday.
Date: July 20, 2021 (Tuesday).
Time: 03:00 PM (Local), 3:00 PM (IST) and 09:30 AM (GMT).
Venue: R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
The weather on Tuesday should be warm & cloudy in Colombo favoring good game on the fields. The average temperature should be around 29 degrees Celsius with less chance of rain interruptions in the match.
The wicket at the R Premadasa Stadium should be batting friendly for the second ODI match, with some turn-on offer for the spinners. A high-scoring game could be on cards. However, all six matches would be played at the same venue so there are chances that the pitches could get slow as the series progresses further.
Despite facing a defeat, Sri Lanka is unlikely to make too many changes to its lineup. They could opt to include an extra spinner in place of Isuru Udana with Akila Dananjaya and Praveen Jayawickrama being the other options. The batters will try to get off to a good start & would try to improve their batting on the field. So there are chances that Sri Lanka will field the same team for the second ODI match.
Sri Lanka: Avishka Fernando, Minod Bhanuka (WK), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka (C), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Dushmantha Chameera, Praveen Jayawickrama/Akila Dananjaya, Lakshan Sandakan.
After showing an outstanding performance in the first ODI, team India is unlikely to make any changes to their winning combination in the second ODI match. India will most probably field the same playing XI in the second ODI match
India: Shikhar Dhawan (C), Prithvi Shaw, Ishan Kishan (WK), Manish Pandey, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav.
With the kind of performance displayed by the Sri Lankan team on the home ground, there are chances that India will again dominate Sri Lanka in the second ODI. There is too much gap between two teams that can’t be bridged in one match. You can expect India to take a 2-0 lead in the ODI series, with an enthralling contest on cards.
Prediction: India to win.
