IND vs SL: Dhananjaya De Silva’s unbeaten knock of 40 runs followed by Chamika Karunaratne’s cameo of 12 runs helped Sri Lanka to beat India by four wickets in the second T20I of the three-match T20I series at the R Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday.

With this stunning win, Sri Lanka has leveled the T20I series by a 1-1 score. The final match of the T20I series will be played on Thursday 30th July. Chasing 133 runs, Sri Lanka got off to a poor start as Avishka Fernando (11) was sent back to the pavilion by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second over. Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Sadeera in the 7th over reducing Sri Lanka to 39/2/. Captain Dasun Shanaka was stumped by Saju Samson for 3 runs & Sri Lanka was reduced to 55/3. Sri Lanka required 78 runs to win from 65 balls. Batsman Minod Bhanuka 36 was also removed by Kuldeep Yadav & Sri Lanka was put on the back foot at 66/4.

Dhananjaya & Hasaranga together stitched 28 runs stand in quick succession but this stand was broken by Rahul Chahar as he dismissed Hasaranga at 15 runs with Sri Lanka still 39 runs away from the target. In the last three overs, Sri Lanka required 28 runs for the win & De Silva along with Chamika Karunaratne took Sri Lanka home.

Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan registered a blistering 40 runs knock to help India post 132/5 in 20 overs. Sent to bat first, India got off to a steady start as Shikhar Dhawan & Ruturaj Gaikwad put 45 runs on board within the first six overs. The first wicket stand of 49 runs as Gaikwad was removed for 21 runs by Dasun Shanaka.

Then came Devdutt Padikaal on the crease to support Dhawan & together the duo put up 32 runs stand. However, this stand couldn’t flourish further as Akila Dhananjaya bowled Dhawan for 40 runs reducing India to 81/2. Soon Padikkal (29) got bowled in the 16th over by Hasaranga reducing India to 99/3. Sanju Samson (7) also failed to create a mark with the bat & India was struggling to post a good score on board. In the final overs, India was struggling to hit boundaries & was restricted to a total under 150 runs mark.
