IND vs SL: India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal on Thursday finally spoke about his dip in performance & said that is absolutely unfair to expect a cricketer to excel in every match. However, he said that the upcoming series against Sri Lanka is very important for him & he will try to give his best performance.
“My performance, I don’t think it was a dip (in form) or anything. You can’t perform in every match. I will try my level best. This series is very important to me. I keep talking to the bowling coach. The management has given us confidence & that’s why I am here. If it wasn’t there, no one in the team would be here”, said Chahal during a virtual press conference.
“My main focus at the moment is just this series- there have been lesser cricket over last year, but that’s not in our hands. Whatever series happens, we want to perform. After this series, my focus will be on the IPL & only then the T20 World Cup. Right now I am focusing on this tour”, Chahal added.
When asked about the pressure of playing the ODI series after a long time, Chahal said, “I am playing an ODI series after so long, but we have already played here- two practice matches. We have been practicing early in the morning so that we get used to the heat. I will be totally different compared to 20 overs where we are on the ground for three, three & a half hours”.
“I have played for five years, 50 plus matches, so I am used to all this. This is not an excuse or something. When I bowl, I just focus on how to get batters out. That’s it. I have a couple of variations & I am focusing on that only, not using other deliveries. You will now see a more confident Yuzi in this series”, he added.
India’s white-ball squad has completely its quarantine period on Thursday 1st of July & has trained for the first time in Colombo on Friday. Team India is gearing up for the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka by playing intra-squad practice matches in Colombo.
