IND vs SL: The white ball series between India & Sri Lanka got rescheduled. The BCCI & Sri Lanka Cricket on Saturday announced the revised itinerary of India’s upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
“The tour comprises 3 ODIs & 3 T20Is will now start from July 18, 2021”, read an official statement from the BCCI. The ODI series will now start on July 18 & the T20Is will commence from July 25. The three ODIs will be palyed on 18,20 & 23 & the three T20Is will be played on July 25, 27 & 29, respectively.
Jay Shah the Secretary of BCCI said, “We understand that circumstances are extraordinary & the BCCI would like to extend its full support to Sri Lanka Cricket during these tough times for the smooth conduct of the upcoming series. Our medical team is in constant touch with the team of doctors at SLC & we are following all safety protocols that will help the series to get underway. We are confident that both the nations will put up a spirited show in the coming days & we are in for some exciting cricket”.
Ashley De Silva, the SLC CEO said, “We are grateful to the BCCI for understanding the situation & agreeing to co-operate with us at this moment, as it has done on numerous occasions, during our long-standing relationship”.
Niroshan & Flower had tested positive for the Delta variant of COVID-19, which is more contagious. The Sri Lanka squad that was going to complete the quarantine & enter the bio-bubble on Friday will now be forced to spend two more days in isolation & will undergo another RT-PCR test.
Earlier on Tuesday, news of three England players tested positive for COVID-19 had raised concerns as Sri Lanka has last played against England in three ODIs & T20Is. Sri Lankan squad locked horns with England in three ODIs & three T20Is & the team returned to Sri Lanka on Tuesday evening. The Sri Lankan team failed to win even a single match on their England tour & suffered a 3-0 defeat in the T20I series & a 2-0 loss in the ODI series.
