A total of eight players to have been identified by the BCCI’s medical team as close contact of Krunal Pandya are Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, Manish Pandey, Ishan Kishan, and Krishnappa Gowtham. As a result, these players are kept in isolation & could not be featured in the second & third T20I against Sri Lanka.
What comes as a shocker for all the cricket fans is that Shikhar Dhawan was also one of the close contacts of Krunal Pandya & thus Dhawan will not captain team India in the next two T20Is of the series. Currently, Shikhar Dhawan is kept in isolation.
The above-mentioned set of players though have tested negative for COVID-19, they are not eligible to take the field for the remaining two matches due to precautionary measures set in place by the higher authorities. All the players will be tested once again today.
The Absence of Shikhar Dhawan could prove to be a Major Setback for India in the next two T20Is
The absence of a total of nine players from the playing XI leaves India with short of players to take the field for the next two T20Is. The players who are fit for playing the remaining matches consist of fewer bowlers. The team now has only 11 players left with them, which includes the net bowlers. Despite such a situation of disparity the remaining two matches are expected to go as per the plan.
Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana, Sanju Samson, Rahul Chahar, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Varun Chakravarthy, Chetan Sakariya, and Navdeep Saini are the players available for the clash. Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Sai Kishore, and Simranjeet Singh are the net bowlers present in the camp.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar being the vice-captain will take over the captaincy reins in the absence of Dhawan. With Prithvi Shaw & Dhawan both out of the clash, the men in blue will place a new left-right pairing at the top order. Several young talents could get a chance to make their T20 debut for India in the second & third T20I.
