IND vs WI 1st ODI 2022: The fields are set & the Caribbean side is eager to welcome the ‘Men in Blue’ with arms wide open. Team India would be brimming with confidence after clinching the limited overs series against England by 2-1. They would aim to register their second successive ODI series win by outclassing West Indies in their own backyard.
The first ODI is all set to be played at Queen’s Oval Park, Trinidad on 22nd July, Friday. Talking about the Indian team, they would be playing a second-string team with all their senior players Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Virat Kohli being rested for the series.
In the absence of Senior players, Shikhar Dhawan will be holding the reins of India’s squad. Young players like Deepak Hooda, Arshdeep Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shubman Gill all have been named to the squad. Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja who was going to assist Dhawan has been ruled out of the ODI series due to a niggle.
Shikhar Dhawan will probably open the innings with Shubman Gill or Ruturaj Gaikwad while the middle order will have the options in face of Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, and Sanju Samson. Looking at Deepak Hooda’s & Suryakumar Yadav’s red-hot form the duo will surely feature in the middle order. While the third spot might be taken by Shreyas Iyer who would get preference over Samson considering his performances.
With the ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the pace department. The likes of Avesh Khan & Mohammed Soraj will assist him in the pace department while in absence of Pandya the fourth pacer option could be Arshdeep Singh. In the spin department, Yuzi will hold the command.
The Caribbean would aim to over-power second string Indian Team
The home side is marching into this clash on the back of a humiliating 3-0 series loss against Bangladesh. West Indies side has failed to perform in all the departments in their ODI series against Bangaldesh. Except for Nicholas Pooran who amassed 91 runs in 3 matches, none of the other batters could actually deliver with the bat.
Batters such as Shamarh Brooks, Rovman Powell, & Kyle Mayers should actually up their game to help their side put a decent total on board against a might Indian team. In the bowling department too they looked ineffective as they could scalp just 10 wickets in three matches. The likes of Alzarri Joseph & Jaydean Seals will have the onus to handle their pace attack & return with crucial scalps. While the spin department will be taken care of by Akeal Hossein. Meanwhile, the boost for the West Indies squad is the return of their all-rounder Jason Holder.
West Indies will aim to forget the past series humiliation against Bangaldesh & start fresh facing a second-string Indian team. Whether India will get successful in planting its flag in West Indies or the home side will bounce back? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section
