IND W vs ENG W, Day 1: Heather Knight & Tammy Beaumont displayed sparkling performances for the hosts. However, visitors bowlers, Sneh Rana & Deepti Sharma struck late in the evening session to give India the much-needed breakthrough. Indian bowlers scalped few crucial wickets by the end of the day to give India women an edge on day one of the one-off Test at the County Ground, Bristol on Wednesday.
At stumps, England’s scoreboard reads 269/6 with Katherine Brunt & Sophia Dunkley remaining unbeaten at the crease. For England, Brunt & Dunkley are still batting on the crease for 7 & 12, around 92 overs were bowled on day one of the one-off test match.
Choosing to bat first, England got off to a spectacular start as openers Lauren Winfield Hill & Beaumont scored 69 runs for the first wicket. They were scoring runs at a brisk rate & the duo put on as many runs as they can inside 21 overs. However, visitors struck late to break their blooming partnership in the 21st over, as Pooja Vastrakar dismissed Hill for 35 runs. At the end of the day, Beaumont & captain Heather knight ensured that hosts reach lunch break without any further loss of wickets. At lunch break, hosts were 86/1.
Post lunch, Beaumont & Knight together scored 71 runs for the second wicket. However, Sneh Rana struck to provide India with the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Beaumont in the 49th over for 66 runs. Then comes Nat Sciver to lead the hosts’ innings. Sciver along with Knight ensured that England doesn’t lose any wickets till the tea break. Together the duo brought the scores to 162 runs with two wickets down. After tea break, these two batters frustrated the Indian bowling attack by scoring at firing rate & together they stitched a strong 90 runs partnership.
Finally, the stand was broken by Deepti Sharma as she removed Nat Sciver on 42 runs for LBW in the 73rd over. In the same over, Amy Ellen Jones was sent back to the pavilion for 1 run by Sneh Rana reducing the hosts to 236/4. Heather Knight missed here century as she was removed for 95 runs by Deepti Sharma. And with the fall of the knight’s wicket, the Indian team marked a comeback in the one-off test match, by reducing England to 244 runs for 5 wickets down.
Georgia Elwiss was sent back to the dressing room by Sneh Rana early for just 5 runs & here England’s innings witnessed a downfall. However, by the end of the first day, Brunt & Dunkley ensured that England doesn’t lose more wickets & both the batters took England’s scoreboard to surpass the 260 runs mark.
