Sneh Rana & Taniya Bhatia’s blistering knocks in the one-off test against England guided India to clinch a hard-fought draw. The increased self-confidence & self-belief will help the India Women to be in good form when they will next face England’s women in the three match ODI series.
The three ODI matches will start on Sunday & would also act as preparatory fixtures for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup which is slated to be played next year in 2022. Earlier this year the Indian Women’s team lost the limited-overs series against South Africa which highlighted that the team requires sheer practice for performing well in the upcoming ODI World Cup.
Smriti Mandhana has displayed a good stint with the bat at the top order but the moment she is out, India’s middle-order struggled to score runs at a brisk pace. This has resulted in the failure of the Indian team to post a total of more than 250 runs in the limited-overs series. However, Shafali Verma has been included in the ODI team & she has the potential to turn the momentum of the game in India’s favor. Even if she manages to play for 15-20 overs then the team would surely have 70-80 runs on the scoreboard.
The ODI series against South Africa saw that the Indian team was unable to defend the scores of 230-240 runs. But now against England’s squad, the Indian team has to display their best performance & be in their best form. With Shikha Pandey making a comeback into the squad, she along with Jhulan Goswami will form a spectacular partnership. Whereas spinners like Radha Yadav, Poonam Yadav & Sneh Rana will add more strength to India’s spin attack & are capable of needing a spin web around England’s strong batting line-up. This series against England will surely act as a preparatory ground for the India women’s team for next year’s World Cup.
