India vs England 2nd Test: England on Tuesday included all-rounder Moeen Ali to the squad ahead of the second test against India at Lord’s, starting on August 12. The all-rounder will train with the squad on Tuesday as per the reports from ECB.
Joe Root led England’s squad has been struggling with poor batting performance in the absence of key players from the squad. Thus on Monday Silverwood hinted at including Haseeb Hameed & Moeen Ali in the squad for the India vs England 2nd Test to balance the fragile batting order.
Earlier on Monday, Silverwood had told the media that Moeen Ali is under consideration for a call back in the absence of all-rounders Ben Stokes & Chris Woakes.
“Moeen is certainly under consideration. He’s always been part of our consideration. We know he is a fine cricketer and we know he is showing fine form in the Hundred at the moment, though I appreciate it’s a different format.
“All-rounders such Ben Stokes or Chris Woakes usually give you options all-round. Unfortunately, we’ve found ourselves squeezed through circumstance recently and we haven’t been able to do that,” Silverwood had said.
Moeen Ali has been in a spectacular form in the limited-overs format. He hit a 23 ball half-century for Birmingham Phoenix in the ongoing hundred tournament on Monday & has guided his team to the top spot on the Hundred Points table.
Moeen Ali was last featured in the second test match against India held in February but didn’t played in further tests as he returned back home due to England’s rotational policy. His last test on home ground was the series opener match in 2019 Ashes.
In the first test against India, England was bowled out for 183 runs in the first innings & could manage to score just 303 runs in the second innings on the back of Joe Root’s stunning 109 runs knock. However, the match ended in a draw as the match was abandoned on day five of the first test
