India vs England Live: Ravi Shastri tests Positive for COVID-19, will stay in quarantine for next 14 days

India vs England Live Updates: India National cricket team faced a major blow as their head coach Ravi Shastri has tested positive for COVID-19 in the lateral flow test & thus he will miss the 5th test of the ongoing India vs England Test series.

According to the sources, Ravi Shastri has again tested positive for COVID-19 in a lateral flow test (Rapid Antigen Test) conducted on Sunday and Monday, his RT-PCR test report confirmed the infection. Three support staff members — Bharath Arun, fielding coach R Sridhar and physiotherapist Nitin Patel — were also isolated after being deemed his close contacts. This means Ravi Shastri will miss the fifth & the final test of the ongoing series at Old Trafford in Manchester. The final test is scheduled to take place at Old Trafford, Manchester from September 10-14.

Ravi Shastri’s close contacts Bharat Arun- bowling coach, R Sridhar-fielding coach, and Nitin Patel- Physiotherapist have been isolated as a precautionary measure. “They have undergone RT-PCR testing and shall remain in the team hotel and not travel with Team India until confirmation from the medical team,” BCCI said in an official statement.

The absence of Head Coach Ravi Shastri, Bowling Coach Bharat Arun, and fielding coach R Sridhar will be a major setback for team India. Their experience & feedback for the players will be missed as they are currently isolating in their hotel rooms & thus couldn’t attend team India’s practice sessions for the final test. It is said that all three coaches will be in touch with captain Virat Kohli and batting coach Vikram Rathour, who will be in charge of the team during their absence.

“Of course, we are missing them massively. They have been an extremely important part of the setup and have done extremely well in the last five-six years in the team doing well,” said Vikram Rathour, India’s batting coach in Press Conference on Sunday.

The other members of the team India contingent underwent two lateral flow tests i.e. one on Saturday night & another on Sunday morning. The players only after returning with negative COVID-19 reports were allowed to feature on day four of the ongoing fourth Test at the Oval against England.

Earlier Rishabh Pant had tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the first test of India vs England test series. Even bowling coach Bharat Arun had to undergo ten days of isolation after being deemed as Pant’s close contact.

Meanwhile, all the players of the Indian team have been fully vaccinated & are staying outside the bio-bubble, unlike IPL. The players and support staff were not keen on staying in bio-bubble. But as a precaution, they undergo RT-PCR Test every 5 days.
