India would be disappointed to not have won the first test despite dominating the major part of the match. Continuous drizzles on Day 5 led to the first test ending in a draw. India has displayed a stunning performance in the first test. They might not have won the test but their confidence would be already high. The addition of KL Rahul in the Playing XI kept India in a leading position in the first test.
The Indian opener batsman made a stunning comeback in Test Cricket after scoring a blistering 84 runs in 214 balls. KL Rahul played some stellar shots during his 26 runs knock in the second innings. His meaningful contribution with the bat made his position solid in the Playing XI & this also means that Mayank Agarwal is not going to make a comeback for the second test.
Another opener Rohit Sharma also batted well in both the innings. But he might be gutted to throw away his wicket in the first innings after scoring 36 off 107 balls. The fans would be hoping that Rohit play a stable knock & score big in the India vs England Lord’s Test to help visitors take a lead by winning the second test of the five match test series.
Meanwhile wickets at Lord’s are slow in nature & assist spinners. So there are chances that Ravichandran Ashwin makes a comeback to the squad for the second test. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj & Mohammed Shami all bowled brilliantly in the first test. Bumrah who went wicketless in the WTC final made a remarkable comeback by scalping nine wickets in the first test. Bumrah, Shami & Siraj together have scalped 16 wickets out of 20 in the first test. So even if Ishant gets fit for the second test it will be difficult for him to make it to the Playing XI in the second test.
On the other hand, England’s batting unit couldn’t display a strong performance in front of visitors tough bowling attack. England’s batting unit looks fragile in the absence of key all-rounders Ben Stokes & Chris Woakes. In order to strengthen England’s batting line-up, Moeen Ali has been included in the squad. He has displayed overwhelming performances in the Hundred 2021 & his inclusion could strengthen England’s batting order. Also as the pitch assist spinner, he could perform well with the ball.
Also Haseeb Hameed has been included in the squad & he can make a way into the Playing XI in the second test match. Not to forget, Joe Root can be a key to unlock England’s fortune. He played a spectacular knock in the first test to help England register a defending total.
England would be hoping to witness many such performances from their Captain Joe Root in the India vs England Lord’s Test. The responsibility will also be on Jonny Bairstow & Jos Buttler to help England take a lead in the series by winning the second test.
