IRE vs NZ: New Zealand pacer Adam Milne has been ruled out of the remainder of the Europe tour due to an Achilles injury. Adam Milne suffered acute pain during New Zealand’s first net session in Ireland. He was then immediately taken for scans the results of which suggested that he suffered an Achilles injury. He would now likely be available for the two T20Is against the Netherlands in early August. So considering Milne’s recovery time frame it was decided to send him back home.
Jacob Duffy who had featured in NZ vs IRE’s second ODI has been named as Milne’s replacement. Duffy who made his T20I debut in 2020 against Pakistan was awarded Player of the Match on his debut.
“We’re naturally disappointed for Adam,” coach Shane Jurgensen said. “He’s a great character in any team and I am sure he’ll apply his strong will to this next phase of rehabilitation
“There is still a lot of cricket to come this year including the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia, and Adam is determined to make himself available to be part of that selection picture.”
“We’re backing Jacob to step up. He’s made an exciting start to his white ball international career. He’s an established performer in our Dream11 Super Smash and showed on his T20I debut against Pakistan that he can transfer those skills to international cricket.”
Milne’s International career has taken a toll due to regular injuries. He was a part of a New Zealand squad that qualified for the T20 World Cup 2022 finals where they were defeated by Australia.
New Zealand Cricket has called up players like Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Michael Rippon, Ben Sears, and Jimmy Neesham into the T20I squad who were not a part of the ODI group.
New Zealand has clinched the ODI series against Ireland by a 2-0 score. The third ODI of the series will be played on Friday in Malahide before the T20I squad moves to Belfast ahead of the first T20I on Monday.
After three T20Is against Ireland, New Zealand will play two T20Is & one ODI against Scotland before heading to the Netherlands for two-match T20I series. After the completion of the Netherlands series, New Zealand will march on their West Indies tour comprising three T20Is & three ODIs slated to begin in August this year.
