Ireland Vs Netherlands: The Netherlands brought up an enthralling one-run win from the clutches of Ireland in the first test of the three-match World Cup Superleague series between the Netherlands & Ireland.
The Dutch posted a huge total of 195 runs in Utrecht. All-rounder Timm Van der Gungten’s much-required knock of 49 runs helped the Netherlands to recover from a diminishing 53-5. In response to Dutch’s 195 runs, Ireland fell short of just one run as they scored 194 runs in the allotted 50 overs. In the beginning, Ireland was reduced to 11-3. However, Paul Sterling & Simi Singh steadied Ireland’s submerging innings by scoring runs & kept the chase alive till the last ball of the 50th over. They were just one run behind a dramatic victory.
The dismissal of Sterling for 69 runs put Ireland in a tough situation. Even Simi Singh who was managing things single-handedly got run out for 45 runs at the start of the last over. Simi’s dismissal became the breaking point for Ireland’s innings as they required just 10 runs off five balls to win the match. However, Josh little & Barry McCarthy could score just eight runs in five balls as Ireland suffered a narrow margin defeat in the series opener match against the Netherlands.
Tim Van der Gungten was awarded the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-winning performance. He displayed a spectacular performance with both bat & ball. Both the teams will come into a face-off in Ireland vs Netherlands second test match in Utrecht on Friday. The third & the final ODI of the series will be played on Monday
