The first test match between England & India ended in a draw & Indian Captain Virat Kohli is not at all happy with the results. Day five of the first test was abandoned due to rain & thus the first test ended in a draw on Sunday.
It was the very first match of the WTC 2023 cycle. The start of day five got delayed twice after an early lunch & tea was taken as rain acted as a spoilsport. “We were expecting rain on day 3 & day 4 & it arrived on Day 5 when we were looking to have a good crack at the target”, said Kohli in a post-match presentation. “We wanted to start strong, & heading into day five we felt that we had the chance right in front of the ball. We certainly felt we were right on top, & it’s a shame we couldn’t complete day five”, Virat Kohli added.
On day five of the first test, India just needed 157 runs to win the match but due to rain, no play was possible. India scored 52 runs after wrapping out England in the third session on Saturday. Virat also expressed that their game on the final day was not about survival as India aimed to seal victory on Sunday.
“We got to fifty overnight, a real positive for us. It wasn’t just about survival, it was about getting the boundaries when we got the chance”, Indian Captain Virat Kohli said.
Further applauding bowlers for displaying a stunning show with the ball on the crease, Kohli said, “It’s the hard work of three odd weeks (lower-order batting). They were in the nets regularly & we got a lead of 95 runs purely from their efforts“.
“I think they did a tremendous job with the bat. Most likely it will be a template going ahead 4-1 combination, but we have always been adaptable as well, to the conditions & pace of the wicket. It’s going to be an exciting series to be a part of, as India-England always it”, Virat added. The second test match slated to begin on Thursday will be played at Lord’s Stadium in London.
