But Mark Wood will get a chance to prove his fitness for the third test in Leeds, starting on August 25.
“The medics are working on Woody (Mark Wood). We’ll find out more in the next couple of days. He is a bowler who can hit 90mph-plus, so I’ve got to look after him, but he will be given every opportunity to be fit for Leeds and obviously, we will make a decision, along with him, and our medics closer to the time,” said Chris Silverwood at a press conference on Tuesday, August 17.
Mark Wood’s spell-bounding bowling performance was not enough to secure a win for the hosts on day five of the second test. Further India’s lower order smashed England’s bowlers to set a target of 272 for Joe Root’s team to chase.
In reply to India’s mammoth target of 272 runs, England succumbed from the first over itself. Root scored a glorious century in the first innings top-scored with 33 again. there was some resistance first from Moeen Ali and then by Jos Buttler. It looked like Buttler would end the game in a draw, but Mohammed Siraj did the needful by dismissing Buttler & then scalped the last wicket in the same over to seal a thrilling victory for India. With this zealous win, India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match test series. The next Test is to be played at Leeds on August 25th.
