Australia pacer Mitchell Starc feels that the West Indies series is a “great opportunity” for the National team to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup which is slated to be palyed in October this year. Australia will come into a face-off with West Indies in five T20Is & three ODIs starting from July 9.
Mitchell Starc who is all set to make his first appearance in the T20 World Cup in almost nine years feels that the upcoming West Indies series will help him to get into the rhythm of T20 Cricket. “It is a great opportunity for the team to start preparing with a bit more focus on the T20 World Cup”, ESPNcricinfo quoted Starc as saying.
“Don’t think I have played 10 T20Is in the last four years let alone in the space of a few weeks so personally, it would be nice to get a bit of a rhythm of T20 Cricket”, he added. The Aussie pacer is working on turning his white-ball skills & has kick-started his preparations for the West Indies series keeping T20 cricket in mind.
“The back end of the summer I was heavily focused on the red ball cricket so put the white ball to the side, To prepare for this tour it’s all been white ball focused with what’s coming up in the next few months”, said Starc.
Last month, Australia limited-overs Captain Aaron Finch said that player’s performances in the upcoming West Indies & Bangladesh tours will play a crucial role in the selection of players in the national team for the T20 World Cup.
The men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will be played in the UAE & Oman due to the rampant surge in COVID-19 cases in India. Though the T20 World Cup 2021 will be played in UAE, the BCCI will still remain the hosts of the mega event. The T20 World Cup is slated to be played in Dubai International Stadium, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, the Sharjah Stadium & the Oman Cricket Academy ground, from October 17 to November 14, 2021.
