NED vs IRE: Netherlands registered a competitive win by 4 wickets over Ireland in the final ODI match on Monday. Stephan Myburgh’s match-winning knock of 74 runs helped the Dutch squad to clinch the three-match NED vs IRE ODI series by a 2-1 points.
Chasing a low total of 164 runs, Netherlands got off to a good start as the openers stitched a partnership of above 50 runs. The Netherlands have already turned the momentum of the game in their favor by restricting the Irish team to just 163 runs total within 50 overs. Myburgh and ODowd put up a 66-run for the first wicket in the 15th over. Irish squad suffered a setback in the 18th over when Barry McCarthy trapped Scott Edwards for a duck.
The hosts managed to chase half of the target right in 25 overs & needed just 68 runs to win in 150 balls. Fore Ireland, Simi Singh became the leading wicket-taker by scalping 3 wickets for 29 runs in his first spell. For Ireland, openers failed to get off to a good start as they caught within three overs. Paul Sterling was the leading run-scorer for the Irish squad in the first two ODIs by scoring 69 & 52 runs respectively. He scored 5 runs while batsman Kevin O’ Brien was dismissed without scoring even a single run.
The pace attack of the Dutch kept Ireland’s squad at bay in the ODI series. Fred Klaasen (3/23) & Logan Van Beek (3/29) shared three wickets each, while van der Gugten took down a couple of Irish batsmen. As a result, Netherlands easily registered victory in the third ODI match with four overs to spare.
The Dutch’s Captain Pieter Seeler scored the winning runs for the Dutch as they clinched the series by 2-1. Netherlands batsman Stephan Myburgh was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his blistering 74 runs off 111 balls that helped the Dutch to register an easy win.
