Pakistan will host New Zealand for a limited-overs series ahead of the T20 World Cup. Pakistan will lock horns with New Zealand in three ODIs & five T20Is during the September-October window. The ODI series will be part of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League & is slated to be played at Rawalpindi’s Cricket Stadium
The T20I series was slated to be a three-match series but on PCB request the series has been extended to five matches. The extension will help both the teams to be well prepared for the T20 World Cup in the October-November window. The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host all the T20I matches. The tour will start with the ODI series from 17th September & will end with the final T20I o October 3rd.
PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan said, “Series against a top-ranked side like New Zealand will be a perfect start to a mouth-watering and highly-exciting home season of red and white-ball cricket. The 2019 World Cup finalists, who are also the World Test champions and ranked third in T20Is, will draw tremendous attraction and interest from the local fans, and will reinforce Pakistan’s status as a safe and secure country.”
Earlier New Zealand last visited Pakistan in 2003 to compete in a five-match ODI series. New Zealand will again tour Pakistan in 2022 to play a test series with them. New Zealand squad will reach Pakistan on September 11 in Islamabad, & will be in room isolation till 14th September. The teams will be allowed to train practice & compete in intra-squad matches for the next two days before the start of the series.
