IND vs NZ 2nd Test: Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma & Ravindra Jadeja have been ruled out of the second test against New Zealand due to an injury. Ajinkya Rahane sustained a left hamstring strain on the final day of the Kanpur test
BCCI confirmed the news with an official statement that read, “Ajinkya Rahane sustained a minor left hamstring strain while fielding on the final day of the 1st Test match in Kanpur. Since he has not recovered completely, he has been ruled out of the 2nd Test in Mumbai. His progress will be closely monitored by the BCCI Medical team.”
Although Ajinkya Rahane’s position in the Playing XI was doubtful for the final test after his poor form continued in the Kanpur Test. But now his injury has confirmed his unavailability in the second test that means opener Mayank Agarwal will retain his spot in the Playing XI.
Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma will also miss the second test due to a finger injury. According to a press release, Ishant Sharma has dislocated his left little finger during the final day of the first test & thus he will miss the final test against the Black Caps.
“Fast bowler Ishant Sharma dislocated his left little finger during the final day of the 1st Test match in Kanpur. He is thus ruled out of the second Test in Mumbai. The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor his progress,” the statement read.
Ishant Sharma was going to be replaced by Mohammed Siraj in the final test irrespective of his availability as he went wicketless during the first test & thus team management wanted to give an opportunity to Mohammed Siraj in the final test.
Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja’s exclusion from the final test is the biggest blow to the Indian team. Ravindra Jadeja has been ruled out of the second test due to a forearm injury he sustained during the first Test in Kanpur. Scans indicate swelling on his forearm & thus he has been advised to take a rest & thus he has been ruled out of the second test in Mumbai.
Ravindra Jadeja was brilliant in the first test as he scored a meaningful half-century in the first innings & went ahead to scalp four wickets in the last session on day five. Jayant Yadav & Mohammed Siraj are likely to replace the duo in the final test while Virat Kohli will bat at the no 4 slot that Rahane has vacated.

Wet outfields have detailed toss at Wankhede & resulted in the curtailment of the first session. The toss happened at 11.30 am which was won by India. Virat Kohli opted to bat first considering the pitch conditions. Mayank Agarwal & Shubman Gill opened innings for India & are looking ahead to build up hosts innings cautiously.
