IND vs NZ 2nd Test: Rains during November & December are something new in Mumbai as recent unseasonal rains have washed out India & New Zealand’s practice sessions on Wednesday ahead of the final Test at the Wankhede stadium. Usually, it doesn’t rain in Mumbai during these days but cyclonic pressure in the Arabian Sea has led to damp weather & sudden drizzles in Mumbai. With further rain forecast in the next 24 hours, the teams will be going into the second test without a proper net session.
In this damp weather, the Indian team management has asked the hosts Mumbai Cricket Association to facilitate indoor practice. The MCA Officials have accepted their request & spruced up the association’s Bandra Kurla facility where an indoor cricket facility is available. “The team will practice at the BKC tomorrow (December 2). The request was received from the team management via the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and we are organizing things,” MCA secretary Sanjay Naik told media.
The BKC & the Wankhede Stadium which is the venue for the secodn test are 18kms away from each other & the team will be traveling on Thursday morning from its South Mumbai Hotel to Mumbai’s Western Suburb.
According to the reports, the request for arranging indoor practice facility to the MCA was made by captain Virat Kohli who will be playing competitive cricket after one month. He was rested from the three-match T20I series & the first test against New Zealand to manage the workload. However, there was no such request from New Zealand who has scheduled their practice match at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
The major concern for MCA is the smooth commencement of the second Test at the Wankhede Stadium amid bad weather conditions which is expected to continue till December 2. The clash at the Wankhede Stadium will decide the result of two-match test series between India & New Zealand as both teams managed to drag the first match into a thrilling draw at Green Park stadium in Kanpur.
