NZ vs NED 1st T20I: New Zealand stuns Netherlands by 16 runs, takes a 1-0 lead

NZ vs NED 1st T20I: New Zealand continued their winning streak with yet another victory against the Netherlands in the first of the two-match T-20 International series between the two sides. With this, the Kiwis take an inevitable lead of 1-0 as we head into the second T-20I to ascertain the results.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first on a damp pitch at Voorburg, New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner’s decision just proved to be correct as the side sealed the game by a mere 16 runs. New Zealand posted an ordinary total of 148/7 in their 20 overs.

Guptill-Neesham’s heroics with the bat guided NZ to a decent total

New Zealand lost quick wickets at the top as opener Finn Allen and wicketkeeper Dane Clever put only 8 and 2 runs on the board respectively. No partnerships were built as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals.

It was the standalone innings of Martin Guptill (45) and James Neesham (32) that took New Zealand near the 150-run mark. Except for Daryl Mitchell (15), Glenn Philips (14), and Ish Sodhi (19), no other Kiwi batsman was able to cross the single-digit mark.

For the Netherlands, Logan van Beek (2/35) and Sharid Ahmed (2/15) led the bowling attack and scalped a couple of wickets each whereas Klein (1/18), Pringle (1/24), and Floyd (1/36) chipped in a wicket apiece.

Tickner’s four fer rattled the Netherlands batting order

Chasing a modest total of 149, the Netherlands was bowled out for a mere total of 132 and lost the game by 16 runs. Wickets started to cripple right from the start as openers Myburgh and Dowd were out for 5 and 2 respectively. Tim Cooper (2) too failed to stay for long reducing the Netherlands to 15/3.

Bas de Leede (66) played a pivotal knock for the Netherlands as he set a 49-run stand alongside skipper Edwards (20). However, their efforts went in vain as the lower middle-order and the tail-end collapsed with none of the batsmen crossing the single-digit mark.

Paceman Blair Tickner starred in the bowling attack for New Zealand as he picked up 4 wickets for 27 runs. Ben Sears supported Tickner by scaling 3 wickets for 22 runs. Spinner Ish Sodhi chipped in a wicket apiece.

The second T20I between the Netherlands and New Zealand is scheduled to take place today at 8:30 pm in Hague.
