Due to the concerns raised relating to the new variant of the virus, Omicron discovered in South Africa, the three-match Betway one-day international series between South Africa vs Netherlands has been postponed.
With several countries around the world including the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the European Union imposing restrictions on flights arriving from South Africa, there were concerns in the Netherlands camp.
Notably, the two teams already took on each other in the first game, which was held on Friday. Though, it was ended in a no-result, following the arrival of rain during the second innings. After talks between both the boards, it has now been decided that the second and third ODI will be held before the completion of the ODI league cycle in 2023.
“We are disappointed by the unfortunate situation we find ourselves in, but the comfort of all visiting teams must always be paramount. The mental well-being of players is one of CSA’s top priorities, and we respect our visitors’ position and point of view. CSA and KNCB will get into discussions around possibly rescheduling the tour within this cycle of the ICC Future Tours Programme ending in 2023.” CSA Acting CEO, Mr. Pholetsi Moseki said:
For those of you who don’t know, India A is currently taking on South Africa A side in South Africa. And the Senior Indian team will be traveling to India next month for a long tour. Despite the concerns of the new variant of Covid-19, South African Cricket Board is confident that the tour can go ahead as planned.
