PAK vs WI, 3rd ODI: Pakistan’s lower middle-order showed great resistance to guide their side to a gleaming 53-run win over West Indies in the third ODI of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League series. With this astounding win, the home side registered a series sweep of 3-0 over the mighty West Indies.
Shadab’s gutsy 86-run knock powers Men in Green to 269
The match which was full of twists & turns was halted for an hour due to a dust storm which reduced the match to 48 overs per side. The home side slipped from 85-0 in the 17th over to a scary 117-5 in the 25th over. Then came Shadab Kahn on the crease who displayed a gutsy batting show to register his career-best 86 off 78 balls comprising four boundaries & three maximums to resurrect Pakistan’s innings. Together with Khushdil Shah (34), Shadab added 84 runs for the sixth wicket and then another 40 for the eighth wicket with Mohammad Wasim.
Shadab’s well-curated innings helped Pakistan to score 78 runs from the last 10 overs to reach 269 for nine, which looked highly unlikely after the middle-order had collapsed like a flip of cards against Nicholas Pooran. The newly elected Captain Pooran returned with astonishing figures of 10-0-48-4 to rattle Pakistan’s middle-order who were already in a commanding position after Fakhar Zaman (35) and Imam-ul-Haq (62) had provided Pakistan an 85-run first-wicket stand.
Nicholas Pooran scalped the wickets of their top five batters, Fakhar, Imam, Mohammad Haris (0), and Mohammad Rizwan (11). Babar Azam, left Pakistan reeling at 117-5. However, thanks to the heroics innings from Shadab Khan who did the rebuilding work for the home side by stitching a valuable stand with Khushdil Shah & individually scoring 86 runs off 78 balls.

After putting up a competitive total on board, Pakistan bowlers displayed an on-point show with the ball to dismiss the Windies for 216 in 37.2 overs. Akeal Hosein fought a lone battle, hitting two fours and six sixes in a 37-ball 60, while Keacy Carty scored 33 and Shai Hope and Keemo Paul contributed 21 runs apiece.
Shadab Khan who had last played an ODI for Pakistan back in July 2021 proved his mettle with both bat & ball. He capitalized on his good batting show with a fruitful bowling attack by returning with figures of 4-62. Hasan Ali took two for 29, while Mohammad Nawaz, who took four for 19 on Friday, bagged two for 56. Like Shadab, Nawaz was also returning to ODI cricket after recovering from an injury. Mohammad Haris too chipped in with crucial wickets by dismissing three top batters. Similarly, Shahnawaz Dahani, who became the 235th cricketer to represent Pakistan in ODIs, picked up a wicket in his second over to finish with figures of 6-0-36-1.

With this gleaming win, Pakistan have grabbed the fourth position in the Super League Points Table with 90 Points from the 15 ODIs they have played. They can further move up on the Points Table as they still have 9 ODIs left.
Pakistan will next play to the Netherlands in August & New Zealand in January, while their schedule for Afghanistan series is yet to be conveyed. On the other hand, seven out of 13 teams in the Super League series along with hosts India will directly qualify for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
