Ramiz Raja expresses lack of faith in ECB in regards to their Pakistan Tour in 2022

PCB chairman Ramiz Raja feels that there is a strong need to make contingency plans ahead of England’s multi-format tour of Pakistan in 2022. England is slated to tour Pakistan for three tests & five ODIs in October next year but Ramiz Raja is not confident that England would tour Pakistan in 2022 after ECB canceled their Pakistan tour which was slated to begin from next month.

The ECB decision to cancel Pakistan’s tour slated to begin from next month for two T20Is has ruined their relations with the PCB. Ramiz Raja expressed his anger with the ECB & is wary of suffering the same fate in 2022.

Ramiz Raja revealed that he had a talk with ECB Chairperson Ian Watmore & is still not convinced of England touring Pakistan next year. Ramiz Raja emphasized that the PCB has to from contingency plans. “I spoke to Ian [Watmore] about this and I said what is the guarantee of England coming back in 2022 and playing because of a month before that tour? You can easily quote tiredness, players being spooked, or sick of living in a bubble, or a threat perception not being shared with us. He clearly had no answer to that, so we’ll have a backup plan for sure”, Ramiz Raja said. If England would have toured Pakistan in October then it would have been England’s first tour of Pakistan since 2005.

Ramiz Raja further stated that ECB’s explanation of New Zealand’s withdrawal of the Pakistan tour influencing their decision is useless & difficult to understand. He felt that the ECB failed to return their favor despite Pakistan making every possible arrangement in terms of their security & safety.

“In going out of our way to accommodate, to adjust to international demands, to be a responsible part of the fraternity and in return we get a response from the ECB that the players were spooked by NZ’s withdrawal – what does that mean? We offered them housing just next door to the stadium in Lahore in the NHPC (National High-Performance Centre). It was about helping a member of the cricket fraternity when they needed you most and we didn’t get that from the ECB”, Ramiz Raja said.

Pakistan is also scheduled to host Australia & the West Indies in 2022. However, the commencement of those series is under doubt after New Zealand and England canceling their Pakistan tour over security concerns.
