Ravichandran Ashwin might play a County Championship match for Surrey club ahead of India’s five-match test series against England starting on August 4.

The Chances of Ashwin to play for Surrey Cricket depends on the arrival of his work visa which is a necessity to play county cricket. As per the reports in ESPNcricinfo, Ashwin is expected to play in Surrey club’s next match against Somerset at the Oval which will begin on July 11. Ashwin has previously played for Nottinghamshire & Worcestershire club in the County Championship. He was the highest wicket-taker in the inaugural WTC season by scalping 71 wickets from 14 tests at an average of 20.33.

India’s test team is currently on a break after the World Test Championship final. The team will reassemble in Durham on July 14 to prepare for their upcoming test series against England. The Indian team will have a camp at the Emirates Riverside Stadium till August 1, after which they will ahead to Nottingham for the first Test.

Earlier the BCCI has requested the ECB to arrange for practice games before the test series begin. ECB has agreed upon India’s request & is working upon its schedule. Most probably the practice matches will take place in Durham, where the Indian team is slated to have their pre-series preparations.

Meanwhile team India is dealing with injury concerns ahead of the test series. Shubman Gill has been ruled out for eight weeks after suffering a shin injury post the WTC final. Even Ishant Sharma suffered an injury on his bowling hand during the WTC final & had to get three stitches. However, according to the health professionals, Ishant will recover on time & will be available for the test series.
