SA vs ENG 3rd T20I: Proteas beats three lions by 90 runs to seal the series at 2-1

SA vs ENG 3rd T20I: Astounding half centuries from Reeza Hendricks & Aiden Markram along with a five-wicket haul from Spinner Tabraiz Shamsi guided Proteas to a massive 90-run win over three lions in the final T20I of the T20I series at Southampton on Sunday. This series win is special for South Africa as they have defeated England in their own backyard.

Batting first, South Africa managed to score a massive 191 runs on board. Riding on the back of Hendricks’s 70 runs & Markram’s unbetaten 51 run-knock, Proteas posted a huge total. Rilee Rossouw (33) & David Miller (22) too chipped in with crucial runs to guide Proteas to a powering total.

In the first innings, proteas got off to a poor start as they lost opener De Kock on the third ball of the match. David Willey sent De Kock back to the hut by dislodging his stumps. Rossouw & Hendricks then joined hands to stitch a stable 55-run stand to help Proteas recover from an early hiccup. However, their blooming stand was soon broken by Moeen Ali who sent Rossouw packing after scoring 31 runs off 18 balls.

Markram was the next on the crease who together with Hendricks kept the scoreboard ticking for South Africa. Hendricks smashed some power-pack shots all across the aprk & brought up his much desirable 10th fifth in T20Is. Markram on the other end provided Hendricks with valuable support. Chris Jordan soon gave England the much-needed breakthrough by removing Hendricks for 70 off 50 balls & ended their blooming 87-run stand.

Markram was going strong with the bat & soon brought up his half-century. Markram & Miller (22 off 9 balls) anchored Proteas innings by keeping the scoreboard ticking. In the end, South Africa managed to put 191 with Markram (51*) & Tristan Stubbs (9*) staying unbeaten on the crease. David Willey starred with the ball for England by returning with figures of 3-25 while Ali & Jordan too returned with one wicket each.

Chasing 192 runs, England never looked on track. They got off to a good start with Jason Roy & Jos Buttler stitching a powering 28-run stand. However, they couldn’t capitalize it as Buttler was dismissed for 14 runs by Keshav Maharaj & after that, no batter could actually hit the mark. Batting at No.4 Jonny Bairstow was going good with the bat however he failed to get support from his partners on the other end. The middle order comprising the likes of Dawid Malan (7), Moeen Ali (3), Liam Livingstone (3), and Sam Curran (9) all failed to hit the straps.

Bairstow’s wicket off Keshav Maharaj’s delivery was the last nail in the coffin for England. The lone fighter, Bairstow went back after scoring 27 runs off 30 balls. In the end, Chris Jordan played a cameo of 14 runs but it was not enough as Proteas wrapped up England’s innings for 101 runs. Proteas won the match by 90 runs margin & emerged with flying colors by clinching the series by 2-1.
