SA vs IRE 2nd T20I: Parnell’s five fer powers South Africa to a 44-run win, seal the series by 2-0

SA vs IRE 2nd T20I: Blistering knocks by Reeza Hendricks & Heinrich Klassen accompanied by a gleaming five-wicket haul by Wayne Parnell powered South Africa to a stunning 44-run win over Ireland in the second & final T20I of the series at Bristol on Saturday. With this win, South Africa sweep the series 2-0.

Hendrick-Markram’s vital knocks guided South Africa to a decent total

Batting first South Africa got off to a steady start with Hendricks & De Kock stitching a 42-run stand. Here, Hendricks was the aggressor who smashed maximum runs while De Kock was seen struggling with the willow. Soon Irish got their first breakthrough with Barry McCarthy removing De Kock for just seven runs. Later, Markram & Hendricks joined hands & stitched a stable 32-run stand to help Proteas recover from early fall of wickets. However, Ireland had the last laugh with Hendricks getting bowled for 42 off 40 balls followed by Markram who was sent packing for 27 off 10 balls, reducing Proteas to 85-4

South Africa was in desperate need of a stable stand & Klassen & Miller exactly did that by stitching a magical 71-run stand in just 28 balls. The duo took Ireland bowlers for cleaners while Ireland bowlers looked clueless in front of their aggressive approach. Soon the hosts got a major breakthrough with Joshua Little removing Klassen for 39 runs off 16 balls. Dwaine Pretorius scored 17 runs before getting dismissed off Mark Adair’s delivery. In the end David Miller (34*) helped South Africa to end their innings at 182-6 in the allotted 20 overs.

For Ireland, Gareth Delany finished as the pick of the bowlers by returning with figures of 2-24.

Parnell’s lethal five-wicket haul ripped Ireland’s batting order

In reply, Ireland got off to the worst start as Parnell struck right on the first ball of their innings to dismiss captain Andy Barbinie followed by wicket-keeper Lorcan Tucker on the second ball to leave Ireland reeling at 2-2. Paul Stirling & harry Tector took the matter into their hands & put a competent 38-run stand to bring Ireland’s innings back on track. However, they couldn’t get going much in front of Proteas lethal bowling attack. Lungi Ngidi dismissed Stirling for 28 off 16 followed by Tabraiz getting rid of Delany for a duck putting Ireland in a state of worry.

Curtis Campher then joined hands with Tector & kept the scoreboard ticking for Ireland. But Parnell struck again to dismiss Campher for 19 followed by Tector for 34 to leave Ireland reeling at 88-6. Ireland didn’t have an answer to Parnell’s vicious bowling spell which cleaned their top & middle order. There was no stopping for Parnell who struck again to scalp two more wickets reducing Ireland to 93 for 8.

Barry McCarthy tried to lead the fightback against Proteas fiery bowling spell but Pretorious didn’t let him fight for long. Pretorious dismissed him for 32 runs off 19 balls ending Ireland’s innings at 138 runs in 18 overs handing a massive 44-run win to South Africa.

For South Africa Parnell was the pick of the bowlers who returned with five wickets for 30. Pretorious too supported him by scalping 3 for 33 runs. While Ngidi & Shamsi scalped one wicket each. Parnell was also felicitated with the ‘Man of the Match’ for his brilliant five-wicket haul.
