India’s ongoing white-ball series captain, Shikhar Dhawan has completed a Mammoth 10,000 runs as an opener batsman in International Cricket. Dhawan has achieved this remarkable feat against Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the ongoing ODI series at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.

Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar & Rohit Sharma are the other four Indian batsmen who have accomplished the milestone of scoring more than 10,000 runs as an Opener batsmen in International Cricket. In yesterday’s match, Dhawan also became the tenth Indian batsman to register 6000 runs in ODI format.

Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Mohammad Azharuddin, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag are the other nine Indian batsmen who have registered more than 6000 runs in the ODI format.

Shedding light on yesterday’s match, Shikhar Dhawan’s blistering 86 runs along with Ishan Kishan’s 59 runs guided India to beat Sri Lankan by massive seven wickets in the opening ODI of the three-match ODI series at the R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. By registering a gleaming victory in the opening ODI, India took a crucial 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second ODI match of the series will now be played on Tuesday i.e. 20th July.

Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets at regular intervals. However, Chamika Karunaratne’s stupendous 43 run knock helped Sri Lanka post an average total of 262 runs for 9 wickets down. For India, Kuldeep Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Deepak Chahar starred with the ball by scalping two wickets each.

Sri Lankan batsmen tried to score runs off a steady pace & post a competitive total. But none of them could make a difference as Indian bowlers such as Kuldeep, Chahal & Deepak Chahar held their nerves to restrict hosts from scoring more runs & thereby reduced them to an average total under 265 runs mark. However, in the final overs, Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera (13) and Chamika Karunaratne (43*) hit some valuable big shots to help Sri Lanka reach an average total of 262 runs.
