Indian Cricket team suffered a major blow as Shubman Gill might miss the entire five-match test series against England due to a stress-related injury in his left leg.
According to reports, the Indian Medical staff suspects that Gill is likely to take a minimum of eight weeks rest to get back to fitness. Details of Shubman’s injury including its exact nature are not revealed yet. During the WTC final, Gill has taken a spectacular diving catch in New Zealand’s first innings without showing any signs of discomfort. It is believed that Gill has suffered an injury during a recent fitness session.
This is Gill’s first injury since his test debut last year on the tour of Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series in 2020-2021, where he had displayed an outstanding performance with the bat by opening the batting for the team India. At present Shubman Gill is staying with the entire Indian team in London. He wanted to play in the latter half of the England tour however the final call in regards to his availability is yet to be taken by the team management.
The BCCI has not given any update on Gill’s fitness. Currently, the entire Indian squad is on three weeks break which has started on June 24. The entire Indian contingent will reassemble in Durham from July 15 to train for the upcoming England test series including the warm-up matches. Recently the BCCI has requested the ECB to organize a practice match before the start of the series so that the Indian team could get some quality match training before the test series which will start from August 4 at Trent Bridge.
The second test match is scheduled to be played at Lord’s from August 12-16, the third at Headingley (August 25-29), the fourth at The Oval (September 2-6), and the fifth at Old Trafford (September 10-14). Immediately after the completion of the final test, the Indian team will fly from Manchester to the UAE to feature in the remaining IPL 2021. It is predicted that Gill will be fully fit till the time of IPL where he will play for the KKR.
