Pakistan’s Captain Babar Azam continues to bloom in the game of cricket by achieving some remarkable milestones at the International forefront. On Tuesday he added one more feat to his kitty by completing 3000 runs in Test format. Babar achieved this desirable milestone on the third day of their first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle.
Azam struck a splendid half-century, his 22nd in Tests & amassed 55 runs off 104 balls before getting bowled by spinner Prabath Jayasuriya during Pakistan’s second innings. In the process, he crossed the 3000-run mark in Test format. Babar Azam’s run tally comes to 3,025 Test runs scored in 73 Test Innings at an average of 47.26. He now bags 7 centuries and 22 half-centuries in the longest format of the game.
Pakistan wraps Day 4 at 222-3, aims at clinching a win on day 5
Coming to the SL vs PAK 1st Test, Pakistan has been given a target of 342 runs to win the match & the visitors are marching on the course of a stunning win as they finished Day four at 222-3 with Mohammad Rizwan 7* and Abdullah Shafique 112* unbeaten at the crease.
Chasing a target of 342 runs, Pakistan got off to a glemaing start, thanks to the crucial knocks by openers Abdullah Shafique (112*) and Imam-ul-Haq (35). The duo stitched a solid 87-run stand for the opening wicket before Haq was sent packing off Mendis’s delivery. Later Babar Azam & Abdullah Shaqfiue joined hands & stitched a powering 104-run stand to inch Pakistan closer to victory. Babar Azam scored 55 runs off 104 balls while Abdullah Shafique stayed unbetaten at 112. After Babar’s dismissal, Mohammad Rizwan joined Shafique & carried forward their innings.
For Sri Lanka, Prabath Jayasuriya starred with the ball by scalping 5-82. Spinners Maheesh Theekshana & Ramesh Mendis also chipped in with two wickets each while Kasun Rajitha sclaped one wicket.
Earlier, Sri Lanka was bundled out for 337 runs in their secodn innings. Dinesh Chandimal scored an unbeaten 94* while Kusal Mendis (76) and Oshada Fernando (64) also scored half-centuries that gave Sri Lanka a 341-run lead. For visitors, Mohammad Nawaz starred with the bowl by returning with amazing figures of 5-88 while Yasir Shah took 3/122.
Mohammad Rizwan (7*) & Abdullah Shafique (112*) will begin the proceedings on Day 5 for Pakistan. While Pakistan will aim to extend their lead & register a win in the first Test, on the other hand, Sri Lanka will aim to break the defense of the set batsmen and grab quick wickets in order to steal a victory from the visitors.
