SL vs SA 1st T20I 2021: Proteas Squad defeated Sri lanka by 28 runs in the opener T20I

SL vs SA 1st T20I: Riding on the back of a spectacular performance with both bat & the ball, South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 28 runs at the R Premadasa International cricket stadium to take a 1-0 lead in the ongoing three match T20I series.

Batting first, the Proteas had a good start with openers Reeza Hendricks & Quinton de Kock in their bets form. The opening pair registered a 73 run stand as Proteas squad looked ahead to set a huge total. However Sri Lanka’s star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga stepped up for the hosts & removed De Kock for 36 followed by sending Hendricks back to the pavilion for 38 runs in the next over. Heinrich Klassen soon got trapped by Maheesh Theekshana on 2 runs. Aidem Markram & David Miller had the onus of rebuilding South Africa’s innings.

The pair fulfilled the expectations & ensured that the Proteas could register a competitive total on board. They scored 65 run-stand but couldn’t perish till the end. Markram scored 48 while Miller scored 26 runs as South Africa end up their innings with a total of 163/5 in 20 overs.

On the other hand Sri Lanka was not there in the chase right from the beginning of the game. They couldn’t register a proper partnership in the SL vs SA 1st T20I . Anrich Nortje did the honors for the visitors right in the first over & then mixed his pace perfectly with the old ball at the death overs. The Proteas spinners two were quite impressive with the ball as they very well used the sticky pitch & keeping the bowling tight.

Despite Sri Lanka Chandimal’s knock of 66*, the target proved unachievable for the hosts as they ended up by losing the opening T20I by 28 runs with the Proteas taking a crucial 1-0 lead in the ongoing three match T20I series in Sri lanka.
