Sri Lanka Cricket to drop Kusal Mendis, Gunathilaka, and Dickwella for India series after Bubble Breach

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwell & Danushka Gunathilaka will not be a part of the Sri Lankan team for the limited-overs series against India which will start from July 13.

SLC officials said that an inquiry into how they left the team’s hotel within the bio-bubble in England would start after the completion of their two-week quarantine period. Sri Lanka will host India for 3 ODIs & 3 T20Is starting from July 13 to July 25.

“Obviously there is no chance that they will be considered for the series against India”, confirmed the Sri Lanka Cricket official to the media.

“They are likely to get a minimum one-year suspension if found guilty of several breaches of their contract,” one official told media, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The trio was suspended from the team & immediately called back to Sri Lanka after the video in which they are seen violating the bio-bubble protocols got viral on the internet.

In the video, Mendis & Dickwella were seen roaming & smoking on the streets of Durham where they were based during the ongoing ODI series. In the second video, cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka is seen joining the duo cricketers, violating bio-bubble protocols. The video enraged many cricket fans who criticized their behavior at a time when they lost all the T20Is against England.

Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa has tweeted that SLC must take strict action against the players who violated the bio-bubble protocols. “Opportunity and time can be invested into youngsters to represent the country, in an attempt to revive #Srilanka cricket. However, playing with a lack of intent and poor discipline should not be tolerated. SLC must take strict action against players who violate these rules,” the Sports Minister tweeted.

Talking about England vs Sri Lanka ODI series, England won the first ODI series by massive five wickets. The second ODI is scheduled to be played on 1st July & the final ODI will be played on Sunday. Many fans took to Twitter to criticize Sri Lankan cricketers for displaying poor performance & showing irresponsible behavior at a time when they have suffered a series sweep in the T20I series against England.
