Sri Lanka Cricket recommends two years ban for Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis for breaching bio-bubble protocol in the UK.
The five-member disciplinary committee formed by Sri Lanka Cricket has advised a two-year ban for batsmen Danushka Gunathilaka & Kusal Mendis & 18 months ban for wicket-keeper batsmen Niroshan Dickwella for breaching bio-secure bubble protocol in the UK.
Additionally, they have been charged a fine of $25,000. In late June, the trio of Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis, and Danushka Gunathilaka had reportedly breached bio-bubble protocols in England. As soon as the news got confirmed the trio was called back from England on an immediate basis. They were suspended for the ODI series against England & even for the entire white ball series against India. Today the trio was presented in front of a five-member disciplinary committee who is headed by Nimal Dissanayaka who is a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka & the committee has found them guilty.
However disciplinary committee’s recommendations are subjected to approval by SLC executive committee, said SLC Officials. According to the reports, the three players have already submitted their written apology to the board & have accepted their mistake. Meanwhile, India is playing third & the final T20I against Sri Lanka here at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Thursday. The series is level at 1-1 as India won the opener while Sri Lanka claimed the 2nd game.
