Sri Lanka to host South Africa for limited-overs series in September

Sri Lanka will host South Africa for a white ball series starting from September 2. Both South Africa & Sri Lanka will come into a face-off in three ODIs & three T20Is. All the matches will be played in a bio-secure bubble & the venue for all the matches will be R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo.

This limited-overs series is very important for both the teams as it will help them to test their players & the entire team capability ahead of the prestigious ICC T20 World Cup scheduled in October-November this year.

Whether the South African team will participate in the IPL phase 2 which is starting from 19th September or will prioritize national commitment is a wait & watch thing. Meanwhile, the major setback for the Sri Lankan team is the absence of Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Niroshan Dickwella who have been suspended for breaching the bio-bubble during Sri Lanka’s tour of England.

The five-member disciplinary panel formed for inquiring the matter has advised suspending Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka for two years from international cricket, and Niroshan Dickwella to be suspended for a period of 18 months, however, a final decision on their ban is yet to be announced by Sri Lanka Cricket.
