T20 World Cup 2021 to kick start on October 17 in UAE, final on November 14

The Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will start from October 17 in the UAE just two days after the completion of the IPL 2021. According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, the T20 World Cup 2021 is slated to begin from October 17, while the final is scheduled to be played on November 14.

Earlier it has been reported that the first match of the IPL 2021 Phase 2 will begin from September 19 while the final will commence on October 15. Just two days after the final of the IPL 2021, the ICC T20 World Cup will begin in the UAE. The World Cup 2021 will be a 16 team tournament. The T20 World Cup was slated to be played in India but due to the rising havoc of IPL 2021, the mega event is now shifted to the UAE.

“Round 1 will include 12 matches which will comprise of wight teams out of which top two from each group will qualify for the Super 12”, ESPNcricinfo states in its report. “Four teams out of this eight teams-Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Nambia, Oman, Papua, New Guinea will then move ahead to the Super 12s, joining the top eight ranked T20I teams”, the report further stated. In the Super 12s phase, there will be three playoff games which include two semi-finals & the final.

Earlier the ICC has announced that the BCCI would retain the hosting rights of the T20 World Cup even if the World Cup is moved out of India. The ICC Board has requested the management to focus on its planning efforts for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup which will be staged in the UAE with the possibility of including another venue in the Middle East country.
