Tamim Iqbal becomes first Bangladesh batter to reach 8000 ODI runs

Stellar frontline batsman and skipper Tamim Iqbal have achieved a remarkable feat as he became the first Bangladesh batsman to score 8000 runs in the ODI format. Iqbal achieved the milestone during the first ODI of the ongoing series against Zimbabwe.

Coming at the crease on 7,943 ODI runs, Iqbal seemed to be determined in his efforts to cross the benchmark. Tamim Iqbal finally garnered the 8000th ODI run off Sikandar Raza’s delivery in the 24th over by hitting a late cut-off to the short third man.

With this, Tamim Iqbal also became the ninth opening batsman to reach 8000 ODI runs mark. Iqbal scored a brilliant knock of 62 runs that helped Bangladesh to put up a commanding total of 302/2 on the board. He also completed his 54th ODI fifty.

Tamim Iqbal has been in sizzling form in the ongoing ODI series. He led his side to a 3-0 ODI series victory against West Indies in the last month where he was awarded as the Player of the Series for scoring 157 runs at an average of 58.50. Tamim has also left an impression in the Test format where he is the second-highest run-scorer behind Mushfiqur Rahim.

Tamim Iqbal is the highest run-Scorer in ODI Format

Iqbal has unarguably been one of the finest opening batsmen for Bangladesh since his debut in 2007. He is also the first Bangla batsman to score 5000,6000,7000 and now 8,000 runs respectively and the highest run scorer in the ODI format.

He has taken Bangladesh to six out of seven ODI series victories since his reign as a permanent captain. Notably, Iqbal took only 23 innings to complete the last 1,000 runs of his career. In the ongoing game against Zimbabwe, Tamim gave an excellent start to his side alongside Litton Das who together built a splendid stand of 119 runs for the first wicket.
