What comes as a shocker for cricket fans is the news of Bangladesh’s batsman Tamim Iqbal’s unavailability for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. Tamim Iqbal has pulled out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
The Bangladesh opener has not been part of Bangladesh’s T20 team since the tour of Zimbabwe. He has also missed the home series against Australia due to a knee injury. Though he is expected to recover in time for the mega event, the Bangaldesh opener has confirmed that he will not travel with the team to the UAE for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021.
He further said that it won’t be fair to open the innings for Bangladesh as currently, Bangladesh openers are doing well in his absence. Bangladesh played with the opening pair of Mohammad Naim and Soumya Sarkar in their recent 4-1 series win against Australia.
Speakiking to Tamim Iqbal said, “I’m not retiring. I just won’t be available for this WC. And it’s fair cause the young openers have been playing for the last 15/16 T20Is. I cannot just come in & take their place. It’d be unfair. And I believe they have more to offer than me,”
Tamim Iqbal confirmed that he would be available for bilateral T20 Series in the future
Tamim Iqbal said that he would be available for selection in the upcoming bilateral series in the future. “To the media, please no phone calls, no WhatsApp messages. I have taken my decision, & I’ll stick to it. I always do what I feel is right, & this is what I’ve felt this time. I’ll be available for other bilateral T20 series in the future. So see you all soon” Tamim Iqbal concluded.
Meanwhile, Bangaldesh is set to host New Zealand for a five-match T20I series as a part of their preparation for the T20 World Cup 2021. Bangaldesh is placed in Group B for the Round 1 matches along with Scotland, Papua New Guinea, and Oman. They will start their campaign against Scotland on October 17 to qualify for the Super 12 stage.
