Wicket-keeper batsman Tom Banton is included in the England squad for the third & the final ODI match against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka & England will come into a face-off in the second ODI match on Thursday while the third & the decider match is scheduled to be played on Sunday.
Tom Banton replaced Dawid Malan who is absent from England’s ODI squad due to personal reasons. “Tom Banton has been added to our ODI squad for the 3rd & the final Royal London ODI with Sri Lanka”, ECB Tweeted on Thursday.
Last week, Jos Buttler was ruled out of the remaining ODI matches against Sri Lanka due to a Calf injury. Jos Buttler sustained a calf injury in his right hand during England’s first T20I at Sophia Gardens on June 23.
Shedding light on the first ODI, Chris Woakes & David Wiley’s four wickets haul along with Joe Root’s blistering half-century guided England towards a scintillating five wickets win over Sri Lanka. England wrapped up Sri Lanka for 185 runs & then chased a meager target within 35 overs to take a crucial 1-0 lead in the ODI series. Though five wickets fell in their chase of 185 runs, Joe Root’s classy fifty & Bairstow’s punching start took England home within 35 overs.
England in their chase of 186 runs, got off to a brisk start by scoring 54 runs within the first five overs. Sri Lanka dismissed Liam Livingstone & Jonny Bairstow however it didn’t affect their chase as Root played a gutsy 79 runs knock to help England chase the target comfortably.
Initially, England was struggling at 80/4 with Ein Morgan & sam Billings being dismissed cheaply. But Moeen Ali & Root together stitched a stunning 91 runs stand to bring England back in their chase. During the first ODI match, Joe Root also became the joint fourth-fastest batsman to add 6,000 ODI runs on their scoreboard.
