Last week, Jos Buttler was ruled out of the remaining ODI matches against Sri Lanka due to a Calf injury. Jos Buttler sustained a calf injury in his right hand during England’s first T20I at Sophia Gardens on June 23.

Shedding light on the first ODI, Chris Woakes & David Wiley’s four wickets haul along with Joe Root’s blistering half-century guided England towards a scintillating five wickets win over Sri Lanka. England wrapped up Sri Lanka for 185 runs & then chased a meager target within 35 overs to take a crucial 1-0 lead in the ODI series. Though five wickets fell in their chase of 185 runs, Joe Root’s classy fifty & Bairstow’s punching start took England home within 35 overs.

England in their chase of 186 runs, got off to a brisk start by scoring 54 runs within the first five overs. Sri Lanka dismissed Liam Livingstone & Jonny Bairstow however it didn’t affect their chase as Root played a gutsy 79 runs knock to help England chase the target comfortably.

Initially, England was struggling at 80/4 with Ein Morgan & sam Billings being dismissed cheaply. But Moeen Ali & Root together stitched a stunning 91 runs stand to bring England back in their chase. During the first ODI match, Joe Root also became the joint fourth-fastest batsman to add 6,000 ODI runs on their scoreboard.
