India’s Test captain Virat Kohli heaps praise on Mohammed Shami following the pacer’s stunning performance in the first test against South Africa. Shami scalped five wickets in the first innings before completing his 200 wickets in test format on Tuesday. In the second innings, Mohammed Shami scalped three Proteas wickets to help India clinch a historic win in Centurion.
“Knew the bowlers will do the job. Spoke about it in the change room- the fact he didn’t bowl much in the first innings, it allowed SA to get around 40 more runs”, Virat Kohli told broadcasters after the conclusion of the first Test in Centurion.
“Just the way these guys bowl together has been a hallmark of our team getting a result in difficult situations. Absolutely world-class talent”.
“For me, he is the best three pacers in the world at the moment. His strong wrist, his pace position & his ability to hit a length consistently”, he added in the statement.
“Got off to the perfect start. Have to understand one day was washed out shows how well we played. It’s always a difficult place to play against SA. The discipline that the batters showed”, said Virat Kohli.
“Winning the toss & batting first overseas is a tough challenge. Credit to Mayank & KL for the way they set it up. We knew we were in pole position with anything over 300-320”, Kohli added. “Got so much confidence out of Johannesberg last time. It’s a ground we love playing at”, Kohli signed off.
Coming to the first test, Jasprit Bumrah (3/50) & Mohammed Shami (3/63) starred with the ball as India defeated South Africa by 113 runs to register a historic win in Centurion to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match test series. Resuming their innings for 94 for 4, South Africa didn’t last long on the crease & were eventually bowled out for 191 runs in 68 overs.
