WI vs AUS 4th T20I: Mitchell Marsh displayed an all-around performance before Mitchell Starc defended 11 runs in the last over to help Australia seal a nervy win over West Indies in the 4th T20I. Australia defeated West Indies by narrow four runs to clinch their first victory in the tour. West Indies is leading the five-match T20I series with a 3-1 score.
Chasing a mammoth target of 190 runs, Windies got off to a good start with opener Lendl Simmons & Evin Lewis stitching 33 runs in the first three overs. However, Adam Zampa gave the first breakthrough to the visitors by removing Simmons in the fifth over & reduced hosts to 62/1. Mitchell Marsh then removed ‘Universe Boss’ to reduce the hosts to 86/2. Andre Fletcher failed to make a difference for the hosts with more than 100 runs required to win. Meanwhile, Simmons registered his half-century & stitched a meaningful stand with Nicholas Pooran.
But Marsh created havoc by dismissing both Simmons & Pooran right in the 16th over reducing the hosts to 132/5. West Indies then needed 36 runs in two overs when Andre Russell & Fabian Allen gave hopes of winning to the hosts by registering 25 runs. However, Mitchell Starc returned by defending 11 runs in the last over as he bowled four dot balls in the last over to take Australia home.
Earlier, Australia had a poor start but Captain Aaron Finch & Mitchell Marsh brought up a 114 runs stand for the second wicket to accelerate Australia’s innings The duo first scored 72 runs in the powerplay & then hit 112 runs in the first half as Australia looked to register 200 runs. However, Hayden Walsh’s three-wicket haul helped West Indies to make a comeback as Australia lost wickets at regular intervals. However, Australia completed their 20 overs by bringing up a total of 186/9 riding on the back of Marsh’s 75 runs & Finch’s 53 runs knock.
